New 9 Chemicals Listed on Banned Chemicals

April 15, 2024
According to the 2001 Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, the United Nations Environment Programme included new nine chemical substances in the list of prohibited and restricted substances that are harmful to human and animal health and the environment. The total number of chemicals classified as prohibited and restricted increased to 21 types. This revision is the first ever list of chemical substances that the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants increases and limits the use of.
UNEP’s press release in Geneva stated that alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, hexabromodiphenyl ether and heptabromodiphenyl ether, tetrabromodiphenyl ether and pentabromo are included. Chemicals such as diphenyl ether, chlordecone, hexabromobiphenyl, lindane, pentachlorobenzene, and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid and their salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride are widespread and used to varying degrees Insecticides, flame retardants or other commercial uses are therefore often ingested into human and animal organs.
